Canada Visitor Visa

Canada Immigration Services

Canada welcomes millions of visitors for tourism, family visits, business activities, and other temporary purposes. Depending on your nationality, travel document, and method of travel, you may need a Canada Visitor Visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), before travelling to Canada.

At Nadeem Law Office, we assist individuals and families with visitor visa applications and related Canadian immigration matters. Whether you are planning a family visit, vacation, business trip, or another temporary stay, we can help you understand the requirements and prepare your application.

What Is a Canada Visitor Visa?

A Canada Visitor Visa is an official document placed in your passport that demonstrates that you have met the requirements to travel to Canada as a temporary resident.

Depending on your circumstances, a visa may be issued for a single entry or multiple entries. The validity period of the visa does not necessarily determine how long you can remain in Canada. Most visitors are normally permitted to stay for up to six months, although a border services officer may authorize a shorter or longer period when you enter Canada.

Some foreign nationals do not require a visitor visa and may instead require an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) when travelling to Canada by air.

Requirements for a Canada Visitor Visa

Obtaining a visitor visa involves more than demonstrating that you would like to visit Canada. An immigration officer must be satisfied that you meet the requirements for temporary entry.

Depending on your circumstances, relevant considerations may include:

  • The purpose and proposed duration of your visit;
  • Your financial ability to pay for your trip and stay;
  • Your employment, business, family, property, and other ties outside Canada;
  • Your travel and immigration history;
  • Your family connections in Canada and your country of residence;
  • Your intended accommodation and travel arrangements; and
  • Whether the officer is satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay.

Applicants must also meet Canada’s admissibility requirements. Criminal, immigration, medical, security, or other admissibility concerns may affect an application.

Preparing a Strong Visitor Visa Application

Supporting documents are an important part of a visitor visa application. The appropriate documents depend on the applicant’s particular circumstances and purpose of travel.

For example, an applicant visiting relatives may provide evidence concerning the family relationship, an invitation from the person in Canada, financial documentation, employment information, travel history, and evidence of continuing ties to their country of residence.

The application should present a clear and consistent picture of why you want to visit Canada, how your visit will be funded, and why your stay will be temporary.

Simply having a relative or friend in Canada does not guarantee that a visitor visa will be approved.

What If Your Canada Visitor Visa Was Refused?

Visitor visa applications may be refused where an officer is not satisfied that the requirements for temporary residence have been met.

If you have received a refusal, it is important to understand the concerns underlying the decision before submitting another application. Depending on the circumstances, your options may include submitting a new application that properly addresses the concerns or considering other available legal remedies.

Repeatedly submitting substantially the same information without addressing the reasons for refusal may not resolve the underlying problem.
